Isn't the assasin's base colour going to be black? That way you just have to buy dye remover to get it black (and most armours will be black on purchase). This will at least control the prices somewhat.

Black dye does look very nice on some armor, and not just for goth types. Black often just provides a very nice contrast for the other colors that you can't change on the armor (15K male drakescale for example). How many women still think that the most basic and classic staple is "the little black dress"? Black is always useful and can look good all the time.

Why is it so expensive? Apart from rarity of drops, you can't mix it yourself or even a close proximity. Same is true for silver, but silver is more frequently dropped. All the other dyes can actually be made yourself from mixing.

As this game is all about trends and people copying what other people do.

Black will drop abit in pirce only if white is introduced as a color like other colors without the need to mix y+s+s+s.
Then everyone wants to dye their armor white.
But I think black will alwyas be expensive.

On the other hand not all armors look good in black, warrior 15k Gladiator does not even look back, it looks more like dark grey.
All the monk and mesmer fows are black (thats why mine is a different color)

Some people just dye any armor they get black even if it does not look nice on it.

I have 2 armors that are black, one is the mesmer noble dress, and the other is the necro 15k tormentor (the only reason I dyed it black because it looks best with black since the armor is just too busy when you put it another color).

I must have missed the "neck size/width" adjustment section when I created that character.
